How to complete KYC on Onboard Wallet (step-by-step)

Your quick guide to unlock the full Onboard experience


To get the best out of Onboard, you’ll need to verify your identity.

Unverified users can still explore parts of the app, but verification is what unlocks the good stuff like spending with your card, receiving payments, converting between currencies, and more.

Whether you're here to get paid, spend globally, or manage your USD and crypto, verifying your account is your first step.


What you can access


Here’s a breakdown of what features are available based on your verification status:

Basic Verification is your starting point when setting up a card, USD account, trading wallet, or making a local currency withdrawal.


Once it's complete, you can upgrade to unlock advanced features when needed.


How to verify


Start with basic verification


This unlocks most features and takes just a few minutes.


Recommended way to start:

  1. From the Accounts page, tap Set up on Cards, USD Account, or Trading.
  2. You’ll be prompted to begin Basic Verification. You'll need to:
  • Fill in your name, address, and phone number
  • Upload a valid government-issued ID
  • Take a quick selfie


And that’s it! Most reviews are completed in under 15 minutes, and you’ll be notified once you’re verified.

Once done, you’ll be able to:


  • Create and fund a virtual card
  • Fund your Onboard USD balance with local currency & crypto
  • Trade or hold BTC, SOL, and more with your Trading wallet
  • Withdraw to local currency accounts.
  • Fund and withdraw above $100 with your DeFi Wallet



Need Full Verification?


Once you've completed the basic verification, you'll only be prompted to upgrade if you try to access a feature that requires full verification - like viewing your USD account details in your own name.


Recommended way to upgrade:

  1. From your USD Account, tap Details. You’ll be prompted to upgrade if needed.
  2. You’ll need to:
  • Enter a National ID number (e.g. NIN, BVN, Tax ID)
  • Upload a proof of address (e.g. utility bill or bank statement)
  • Answer a few questions (like your source of funds and account purpose)


Reviews are usually completed within 48 hours.

Once upgraded, you’ll be able to:

  • View your full USD account details in your own name
  • Receive ACH/Wire payments with this account
  • Send and receive funds with external USD/EUR bank accounts

1. What documents do I need to verify?


  • For Basic Verification, you’ll need a valid government-issued ID (e.g. passport, Driver’s License, or national ID) and a quick selfie.
  • For Full verification, you’ll also need a proof of address (e.g. utility bill, bank statement), issued in your own name, and a national ID number (like NIN, BVN, or Tax ID).


2. What countries are supported?


Most countries are supported for verification - but due to compliance reasons, some regions may have limited access.

You can search for your country in this list to see if it’s supported for specific features like cards, USD accounts, trading wallets, etc.

3. Are there any unsupported countries?


Yes - some countries have limited access due to compliance regulations.

If you're in one of these countries, you’ll still be able to use non-verification features (like swapping or receiving crypto), but you won’t be able to complete verification or access features that require it.

4. How long does verification take?


  • Basic Verification: Usually under 15 minutes
  • Full Verification: Typically within 48 hours

5. Why am I being asked to submit my ID again during Full Verification?


In rare cases, we may need you to re-submit your ID.

Sometimes, your initial upload may not quite meet the requirements for full verification - maybe the image wasn’t clear enough, or more checks are needed to meet compliance standards.

It doesn’t happen often, and we’ll review it as quickly as possible once re-submitted.


6. What happens if my verification fails?


If your verification is unsuccessful, you’ll be notified with next steps - usually a request to re-upload documents or correct details.
